Biography:

Leanne has broad experience and perspective. She has worked extensively in private practice. The early to middle part of Leanne’s career was heavily involved with Sports Team servicing, This included the Australian Masters Hockey Team (1991-1992), the Australian Netball Team (1993-1996), the Australian Swim Team (1997), at The Australian Institute of Sport (1998-2004) with servicing duties to the men’s soccer program, the gymnastics program and track and field program, the Australian Gymnastics Team (1998-2003) and The Australian Ballet (2005-2009). This included international team travel, and major competition coverage including 2000 Olympic Games, 2002 Commonwealth Games and multiple World Championship competitions.

Since 2008, with the attainment of Clinical Specialisation and a sub-specialty in The Hip, Leanne has focused on advancing the clinical integration of the rapidly evolving knowledge space of Sporting hip and groin conditions, pain science and its application toward prevention of the transition from acute to chronic pain in the active population, and Sport Movement Skill Science into transforming rehabilitation design.

Leanne has been actively engaged with teaching and education over many years. This has included clinical supervision of students, as visiting lecturer for the Masters in Sports Physiotherapy Course of La Trobe University, 20 years of lecturing on the Level 3 Sports Physiotherapy Course, and numerous lecturing opportunities including through the APA, Physiosports Education Symposia Program and in-service program provision in local private practices.

Leanne is an examiner for the College of Physiotherapists, a member of Sports Medicine Australia, the APA Pain Group, IASP (International Association for the Study of Pain), IADMS (International Association of Dance Medicine & Science) and Emergentmovt.com (a Sport Movement Skill Education Company)

Leanne is strongly aligned to patient advocacy. Her primary focus is to work with patients collaboratively to build a recovery path aligned with patient goals, possibility and broad targets for change.

Research:

Leanne initiated the investigation into Adductor Magnus through the Universities of Queensland and La Trobe University, Melbourne. This was to clarify the functional role the inside leg muscle has and to inform rehabilitation decisions for conditions of Hip and Groin Pain. Two further papers related to gait and exercise prescription are currently in process.

Leanne is a clinician on The EPIPHA-KNEE trial: Explaining Pain to target unhelpful pain beliefs to Increase PHysical Activity in KNEE osteoarthritis – a protocol for a multicentre, randomised controlled trial with clinical- and cost-effectiveness analysis. Led by Tasha Stanton through the University of South Australia, the training for this trial has upskilled Leanne’s knowledge on the modern pain and osteoarthritis story with a focus on delivery of patient specific pain education in line with patient beliefs and pain presentation.
