Phil Cossens is a specialist sports and exercise physiotherapist with over 25 years’ experience in elite sport and clinical practice. Having worked with athletes in gymnastics, rowing, tennis, baseball and swimming, Phil has developed deep expertise in complex upper limb injuries. He presents nationally to physiotherapists seeking to advance their skills in elbow, wrist and hand injury management, and mentors experienced clinicians as a facilitator for the Australian College of Physiotherapists fellowship program — ensuring he remains at the forefront of emerging research in sports injury management.
Phil’s career spans private practice, emergency department physiotherapy, hand therapy, and a long tenure as Senior Physiotherapist at the Australian Institute of Sport. His work with elite Australian teams has taken him to the Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games, three Commonwealth Games and fourteen World Championships.
In 2025, Phil opened his own clinic on the VIC/NSW border at Cobram-Barooga, providing expert care and support to rural patients and clinicians. He welcomes second opinions and consultant services, working closely with each patient’s management team to optimise outcomes. For those unable to attend in person, telehealth appointments are available.
Phil combines elite-level experience with a genuine passion for helping every patient achieve their best possible recovery.
Phil provides mentoring opportunities for all levels of physiotherapists, providing support to develop clinical reasoning skills to optimise patient outcomes or career guidance toward their next opportunity in the profession.
